Laura Elaine Berglund, 70, died on May 6, 2013 at Speare Memorial Hospital, in Plymouth, following a period of failing health. Born in Brattleboro Vermont on May 27, 1942, she was the daughter of Frank E. and Dolores [Meissner] Jones II.
Elaine spent her early years in Grafton, Vermont, moving to Juneau, Alaska as a young girl. While in Juneau, she attended Saint Ann’s Catholic School, and graduated from Juneau High School in 1959. She went on to study at the University of Colorado, and at Berkley College in California.
Elaine was an avid reader, well versed on many subjects, and enjoyed lively conversations, sharing her wealth of knowledge. She was an accomplished knitter, loved to crotchet, and produced beautiful crafts of many kinds. She loved the outdoors and tending her garden and flowers. She enjoyed traveling the country with Ray, in their camper, as well as traveling on the train. The highlight of her travels was returning to Juneau in 2009 for a 50th celebration of Alaska’s statehood, and a reunion with her friends who participated in the original celebration. She was a compassionate, loving caregiver, and a loving sister and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Prior to moving to Ashland, she was employed as an Administrative Assistant at BDR Transportation, in Bellows Falls, VT. While in Ashland she was employed at the Comfort Inn, and at Irving. She was predeceased by her parents, and her brother Frank E. Jones IV.
She is survived by her companion of 16 years, Raymond Claveau, of Ashland, her son, Joseph S. Berglund, her sister, Genevieve Gallagher and husband Bill, of North Walpole, her brothers Marcy Jones and wife Deedee, of Brattleboro Vermont, and Frank E. Jones III, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Dupuis Funeral Home Ashland is handling arrangements.
