VICKI NIELSEN Obituary

Vicki E. (Nourse) Nielsen, of Holderness, NH, passed away on the afternoon of February 10, 2024 with family by her side.  She is survived by her sisters, Pamela Vance, Christine Brigham & Nancy Aura, her daughter and son-in-law, Kristen & Nate Fuller, and four grandchildren Lorelai, Juliet, Ryan & Oliver Fuller.  She was predeceased by her husband, John Nielsen just one year ago.

Vicki was adopted in 1953 by Barbara and C. Freeman Nourse of Lexington, MA and grew up as an only child.  She flourished there through her early years as an active member of her church and as part of the synchronized swim team in school.  She and her best friend Janet made plenty of mischief and spent lots of time together, both in Lexington and in NH.  With her parents, she would spend summers on Little Squam Lake in Ashland, NH.  During one of those summers, she met John and they were married at St. Peter’s Church on Shepard Hill in 1973.  She loved the lake life and her favorite days were spent on Morrison Island among family and friends.

Vicki went to secretarial school in Boston for a year where she learned shorthand.  She often used shorthand to write notes to herself for many years afterward.  After completing her schooling, she worked as a phlebotomist at Sceva Speare Hospital before becoming bookkeeper for the propane business she ran with John.  When they were finished with the propane business in 1994, she went to work for what is now Mid-State Health Center in Plymouth, until her retirement, in the Medical Records Department.

She was fortunate enough to meet her biological mother, three half-sisters and their families in 1992.  She went on to have a wonderful relationship with them, keeping in touch on weekly calls through COVID over video.  In addition, she was happy to meet another half-sister from her biological father’s side a few years ago.

In April of 1998, she joined Ellacoya Chapter #43 of the Order of the Eastern Star with her daughter Kristen.  She was very active in Eastern Star becoming a Past Matron, and then held the office of Secretary of her local chapter for 17 years.  She is a Past Grand Esther and Past Grand Trustee for the Grand Chapter of NH and was honored to be a Hummingbird by Special Appointment to the General Grand Chapter from 2018-2021.

Vicki was proud of her grandchildren and always tried to attend their events, like concerts, sports games, or other special events.  She would do crafts with them and play games with them, especially card games.  One of the family favorite games came from her “Aunt” Ruth Morrison called Squeak.  It was always a banner day for the grandchildren to be able to beat Grammie at her game.

A public memorial service will be held at Squam Valley Masonic Association, 1 US Rte 3 Holderness, NH, on the Center Harbor town line, on March 23, 2024 at 1030am.  An Eastern Star service will take place at 11am.  All are encouraged to come share stories about Vicki and her life.  For more information, go to Dupuisfuneralhome.com.
